Lake Superior shows growth in second competition, coach says

The Lake Superior Figure Skating Club hosted their Skate Ontario Provincial Series competition last weekend in Sault Ste Marie. More than 120 athletes from 19 provincial clubs took part, including 24 from the host team.

Local Skaters Bring Home Medals

18 figure skaters represented the Lake Superior Figure Skating Club at the Nickel Blades on Ice Skate Ontario Provincial Series competition this weekend in Sudbury. The competition hosted clubs from all over the province, it was a big event with upwards of 24 clubs in attendance. There were several qualifying events for skaters hoping to make it to Provincials in March, 2023. Those qualifying events included Star 5 – Gold as well as Pre Juvenile and Juvenile. The competition also included non-qualifying events for skaters from Star 2-5.

Local Skaters Bring Home Medals from Nickel Blades on Ice in Sudbury

The Nickel Blades along with Skate Ontario event brought close to 300 skaters to the Countryside Arena. The 2020 figure skaters ranged between the ages of five to 25 with 26 skaters representeing the Lake Superior Figure Skating Club at the Nickel Blades on Ice, Skate Ontario Super Series in Sudbury, Ontario over the February 21st to 23rd weekend. A total of 37 skating clubs took part in the 2020 event.

 34 LSFSC Skaters Represent Sault Ste Marie at Skate Ontario Super Series

34 skaters represented the Lake Superior Figure Skating Club at the Lake Superior Figure Skating Club, Skate Ontario Super Series over the January 10th to January 13th weekend in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario at the John Rhodes Centre.

Sault Skaters Bring Home Hardware from Huntsville

Eleven skaters represented the Lake Superior Figure Skating Club at the Skokie Skate, Skate Ontario Super Series in Huntsville on October 25-27, bringing home 3 gold and 6 silver medals.

Lake Superior Figure Skating Club hosts public performance to build skills

Local figure skaters headed to provincial competition

The Lake Superior Figure Skating Club skaters Emilie Vezina, Lilia Anne Pelletier, Emma Carlucci, Yvonne Barnes, Cassie Grenier, Emily Coutu, Hannah Martin and Delaney Schumacher from the Wawa FSC, who trains part time at the LSFSC, have qualified for the 2019 Skate Ontario Provincial Championship which is being held in Mississauga, Ont. this weekend (March 7-10, 2019.)

25 local Figure Skaters proudly represented the Lake Superior Figure Skating Club this past weekend as they competed in the Skate Ontario Super Series Manitoulin Competition held in Little Current, Ontario.

Skaters Earn Hardware

Fourteen members of the Lake Superior Figure Skating Club combined to bring home 51 medals last weekend from the Copper Cliff Performance Plus competition in Copper Cliff, Ont.

The local group secured six gold medals, 27 silvers and 18 bronze medals.

Local Skaters Bring Home 10 Top 3 Finishes

The 2017 Skate Thunder Bay competition took place at the Port Arthur Arena in Thunder Bay on Nov. 24 and 25, 2017. Danielle McPhee, Lilia-Anne Pelletier, Yvonne Barnes, Cassie Grenier, and Hailie Levesque brought home 10 top three finishes in the events competed.

Congratulations to Emilie Vezina for Qualifying for the Skate Ontario Sectional Championships!

The Lake Superior Figure Skating Club would like to congratulate Emilie Vezina for qualifying for the Skate Ontario Sectional Championships!

Emilie is one of 60 Pre Novice Skaters who qualified from Ontario. The Skate Ontario Sectional Championships will be held in Oakville Ontario Nov 2nd-5th 2017.

The Lake Superior Figure Skating Club Board of Directors, Coaches and Skaters would like to wish Emilie the best of Luck!

Eleven Local Figure Skaters Represented The LSFSC at The MIAD Competition in North Bay

The team brought home 20 top three finishes in the events competed. Skaters from LSFSC were very excited about their results siting several personal bests!

Nine LSFSC Skaters Qualify to Represent Northern Ontario at the Skate Ontario Championships

Lake Superior Figure Skating Club had another impressive showing this weekend where they competed at the ESSAR Centre in the 2017 Festival of Stars Event.This event identifies the top figure skaters from across Northern Ontario who are vying for a spot in the 2017 Skate Ontario Provincial Championships in March.

Local skaters medal at Skate Canada Northern Ontario Championships 

The 2017 Skate Canada Northern Ontario Sectionals event took place at the Delaney arena in Thunder Bay on Nov. 4 and 5, 2016. The LSFSC coaching team and Board of Directors is very proud of all eight skaters who competed this past weekend: Emilie Vezina, Lilia-Anne Pelletier, Breanne Derochie, Jordan Derochie, Hanna Martin, Yvonne Barnes, Cassie Grenier, and Olivia Nero.

Lake Superior Figure Skating Club Skaters excel at the 2016 Skate Ontario Championships

Danielle McPhee placed 4th in the Senior Silver Ladies Free Skate event. Danielle also competed in the Silver Ladies Triathlon event coming in first place. Congratulations to Danielle for becoming the Silver Ladies Triathlon Provincial Champion!

Cameron Smith placed third in the Junior Silver Ladies Free Skate event. Cameron was sitting in sixth place after the first two disciplines in the Bronze Triathlon and after a fantastic skate to win the Free Skate event, ended with a second-place finish overall!

Sault Skaters from the Lake Superior Figure Skating Club SHINE in North Bay!

12 skaters represented the LSFSC at the Make it a Date Figure Skating Competition which took place this past weekend in North Bay. The team brought home 25 top three finishes in the events competed.

LSFSC Skater Abiguel Jones Qualifies for Skate Canada Challenge

Abiguel placed 5th in the short program and came back to finish 1st in the long program qualifying her to represent Northern Ontario at the Skate Canada Challenge in Montreal on December 4-7.

LSFSC Figure Skaters Abiguel Jones, Breanne Derochie and Jordan Derochie qualify for the Skate Canada Challenge competition in Edmonton Alberta. Skaters bring 9 medals back to the Sault.

The 2015 Skate Canada Northern Ontario Sectionals Event took place in Copper Cliff, ON Oct 30th -31st, 2015. Skate Canada Sectional Figure Skating Competition is used to select the top skaters in each province for advancement to the next stage of qualifying, ultimately leading to the Canadian Figure Skating Championships.

Lake Superior had an exceptional competition with one of the highlights being the three skaters qualifying for the Skate Canada Challenge held in Edmonton Alberta.

Director of skating Kerry Bain was very pleased with the results of all the LSFSC skaters, citing a strong coaching team and the dedication of the skaters and families as a contributing factor to the overall success. An impressive 9 medals were earned by the 16 competitive skaters representing the Lake Superior Figure Skating Club.

In February LSFSC Pre-Juvenile and Juvenile skaters will compete again at the Festival of Stars competition in Sault Ste. Marie. The top four skaters out of each event will qualify for the Skate Ontario Starskate Championships to take place March, 18th- 20th, 2016 in Sudbury, Ont.

Cameron Smith  competed at the Skokie Skate competition in Huntsville Oct 23rd-24th.  Cameron placed, Gold in the Bronze Skills event, Gold in the Bronze Interpretive event and 2nd in the Bronze Free event. Cameron placed 1st overall in the Bronze Triathlon Event.
